Appeals Court Reverses Lower Court Ruling

Royal Caribbean Not Liable for Toddler's Fatal Fall

Appeals Court Reverses Lower Court Ruling

Grandfather Held Responsible

In a highly anticipated decision, a federal appeals court has ruled that Royal Caribbean Cruises is not responsible for the death of an 18-month-old girl who fell from a window on one of its ships.

The tragic incident occurred in 2019 when Chloe Wiegand fell from an open window on the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship while being held by her grandfather.

The Wiegand family filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean, alleging that the cruise line was negligent in failing to properly secure the window. However, a federal judge dismissed the case in 2021, ruling that the cruise line was not liable for the girl's death.

The Wiegand family appealed the decision, and the appeals court reversed the lower court's ruling.
