Mississippi State Fires Head Coach Zach Arnett After Just One Season
Arnett Was Fired Monday, November 13, 2023
Selmon Announces Decision Amidst Ongoing Investigations
Mississippi State has fired football coach Zach Arnett after less than one season at the helm. The decision was announced Monday by athletic director Zac Selmon.
Arnett, who was hired in December 2022, led the Bulldogs to a 3-9 record in his first season. The team also finished last in the SEC West with a 1-7 conference record.
Selmon said in a statement that the decision to fire Arnett was made after "careful consideration." He added that the university is "committed to building a successful football program and will begin a national search for a new head coach immediately."
Arnett's firing comes amidst ongoing investigations into the football program. In October, the NCAA launched an inquiry into allegations of recruiting violations under Arnett's watch. The university is also conducting its own internal investigation.
Arnett's dismissal is the latest in a string of coaching changes in the SEC. In recent months, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Florida have all fired their head coaches.
